This Picture Reminded me

of my sister.

A very long time ago,
we were at one of the largest track meets of the entire Twin Cities area.

I mean, like EVERYONE and their mother (and grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, cousins and next-door neighbors) was in attendence.

It was my turn to run a relay.

I was late to meet with the race officials.

Luckily for me (not) the announcer somehow spotted me in the crowd and was joking with me over the loud speaker.

(I really didn't appreciate his jokes at the time.)

I still had my warm-up pants on.

Luckily for me (again NOT)
Libbie was there to help me.

As I was running for check-in, and while the entire population of the Twin Cities Metro Area
was watching me panic and run for check-in, and try to take my pants off at the same time, Libbie, bless my sister, decides to step on one leg of my pants.

That was it.

I have a vague recollection of lying there on the ground.
In the middle of the track.
While EVERYONE was looking on.
While a circle of people stood over me,
you know, like they do on tv.
The announcer was sputtering over the loud speaker.
And in the midst of that circle, I caught one face.

That's right.
Lib.
Laughing so hard she had to have been crying.

  2. Hilarious! Mine would have done the same, probably so hard that they wouldn't have been able to help because at our age laughing that hard sends us to the nearest bathroom... laughing all the way! This was the perfect way to end my day, THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN FOR GIVING ME THE BIGGEST GRIN EVER! t.xoxoxoox

  8. Dear Kate,

What a story! I have some crazy ones to tell about my sister too. (chuckle) I have to tell you, your comment on my blog today lifted my spirits so much. It has been so hard these past 11days and it's still not over! The contractor has been difficult and he is refusing to finish the job correctly. I'm hoping we can find a solution over the weekend. It's costing a ton of money too. All stop whining now.

Thank you for being such a bright spot in my day.

    Hugs!
    Nancy

P.S. Move all of your furniture out of your construction area and cover every doorway with a double layer of plastic. It will help reduce the crazy dust and muck in the air of the rooms your living in during construction.

  9. Oh, my gosh! That was a great video! Sorry it took your blog down, but so glad you shared it with me. Things got a little worse this evening with our contractor so your prayers are very much appreciated. I have to say I've been been a bit sick from stress from this whole thing. My hubby is my hero right now.He is really trying to get this guy to finish properly. Color Me Kate looks so fun. I can't wait to explore her blog more. Thanks for the extra ray of sunshine.

  17. I hate it when people joke and you don't like it but you have to understand that people mostly do it as a act of kindness. They are not looking to be mean. I guess it's a little late to say Merry Christmas but I will anyways.
