To My Dear Friends, The Lilacs,
I just want you to know I am very eagerly awaiting your arrival in my yard.
I have prepared my house for you, washing vases, making sure the house is neat and tidy, dusting...
I even changed out a chair for you, my cream one with violet flowers painted on it, is now also waiting with me.
Like a kid waiting for Christmas morning I am,
I would call it delicious anticipation.
I check on you each day to see your progress. A gentle spring rain and you are almost there.
So come soon, my friends,
I miss your delicate scent, your sweet blossoms, your gentle nature.
I welcome your arrival!
Until then~
Kate
Until then~

ReplyDeleteI had my first Wiff of the season on Saturday, after spending several hours in "The Messy House" when I was walking out, I noticed an Overgrown Lavander Lilac Bush in the corner of the yard, Not many Flowers, but enough to break off a clump & Sniff ~ I was so thrilled to have that Heavenly aroma (plus it really helped to get the Old, Yucky Smell of The House out of My Head ~
So Glad I am getting to pop in on My Favorites, I really am missing, my regular blogging time. I hope to finish Clearing the house by Friday & then I leave on Sunday Morning till Tuesday night for work.....
be back soon
xox
Oh I've always wanted to try and grow lilacs, but I think it's too hot in Texas. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait!

Oh, my! I do love lilacs! Mine finally bloomed, and I cut a few sprigs for my kitchen--they're filling my house with the most wonderful scent--yum!
ReplyDeletenot long now! mine are already fading. sniff.
ReplyDeleteWe moved about five years ago and left behind a huge row of very old and established lilacs. No kidding, they were taller than our little garage (maybe twenty feet in some places?) It was an old farmstead and they'd been planted years and years ago. We'd go gather enormous bouquets and share them with everyone we knew. Sigh... I should plan for the future and plant a bunch here. I actually do have a few small bushes (Miss Kim) but it's just not the same!
ReplyDeleteLilacs are the perfect spring arrival flower.
Bonjour Kate ~ You have a beautiful way with words. Love your lilacs! I come by here to visit and never once did I realize that I was not a follower. Well, I just nipped that in the bud! Thanks for your patience ~ CeCe
ReplyDeleteLike the rest, I too cannot wait! I have some bushes that definitely need pruning this year I started to see and smell them when I was out working yesterday but they are all at the top of the 8' tall bushes! I love them, my parents house have a huge row maybe 20 bushes that will be full and I will be there to 'take some of my dads hands'! Just like you I will put them all over the house, unlike you I'll be all over spit shining a vase to plop them in! LOL! no I'm serious, cleaning things is just not my fortay!!! You are such a talented writer Kate, I love these posts! Theresa
ReplyDeleteAh yes. Waiting for our friends the flowers. My Wisteria bush bloomed for the first time in four years! Every year till now the first blooms of spring have been killed by a late heavy frost. This year there was no heavy frost and I got to see my Wisteria in all it's glory. HUGE purple clusters like grapes on the vine. Some of the clusters were 14 inches long! It was so nice and gorgeous. Now all those flowers have fallen and the leaves are coming on. But it will bloom throughout the summer. Can't wait to see them again!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Kate!
The first bloom of a lilac always means spring to me!
ReplyDeleteOMG you are too funny! I loved the comment on my prom post, I didnt read the whole thing until I pressed post... but I promise I took it right off so as to protect reputations!!! I laughed out loud... THANKS!! Theresa
